Who will Clowney and Ingram be dressing for in 2022?

We still don’t know who the former stars of the South Carolina NFL team are Jadeveon Clowney and Melvin Ingram will dress for the start of the next season.

Clowney signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2021 season and has had a solid year for the club. He recorded 37 total tackles and nine sacks.

In an article published by Focus on professional football On Thursday morning, PFF’s Ben Linsey offered his thoughts on whether Clowney should re-sign with the Browns or move to another team. Here’s what Linsey had to say.

“Clowney returning to Cleveland, whether on another one-year contract or a multi-year extension, would represent the first time he’s stayed with a team for more than one season since 2018. The Browns are expected to do whatever they can to make it happen.

“The Browns have taken steps to add depth to their front-running squad through trade (Chase Winovitch), free agency (Stephane Weatherly and isaac rochel) and the draft (Alex Wright). Still, Cleveland shouldn’t be overconfident with either of them stepping into a starting role opposite Myles Garret in 2022. Clowney is one of the best defensemen in the league at this position and a disruptor in the passing game, although he has not lived up to his draft position as an elite passer .

Browns general manager Andrew Berry is still open to bringing Clowney back to Cleveland and said the team really likes Clowney.

“We will continue to keep our thumbs on the pulse of all veteran markets,” Berry said at a press conference on Saturday. “We think a lot about JD. Like I said, we’ll catch our breath tomorrow, and we’ll get back to it with the roster building next week.

At a Dec. 31 press conference, Clowney said he plans to return to the Browns in 2022.

“I would, but we haven’t talked about anything yet,” Clowney said. “I just finished the season. We have a lot of guys in this team who have a one-year contract, and they might come in or not know what’s going to happen in the future. Right now it’s all about the next game, I’m just trying to finish the season and do what I can do for the team right now.

After being selected with the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Texans, he had 292 total tackles, 41 sacks, 12 forced fumbles and three touchdowns. After playing in Houston from 2014 to 2018, Clowney has played with three different teams over the past three years. Clowney has played with the Seahawks, Titans and more recently the Browns.

Ingram started the season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 16 for a sixth-round pick. Ingram was only with the Steelers for one season after signing with the team in the offseason. Prior to being traded to the Chiefs, he had one sack and ten tackles in five games with the Steelers. Ingram really started to play well as the season progressed.

During his NFL career, Ingram recorded 385 total tackles with 51 sacks and 15 forced fumbles. Here’s what Linsey had to say about Ingram.

“The Dolphins make their second appearance on this list, as their $19.7 million effective cap space ranks third in the NFL behind only the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers, per Over The Cap.

“Ingram is best used in a rotation and pass-rush role at this point in his career. Miami can use him in that capacity and rotate him with Emmanuel Ogba, Jaelan Phillips and André Van Ginkel. Ingram’s 12.8% pressure rating is a top 25 position in the past three seasons — he can still offer value to a team like Miami looking to struggle in a crowded AFC.
