ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — After not receiving an invite from the NFL Combine, Josh Black is looking to turn heads at Pro Day in Syracuse on March 31.
“They’ll be like ‘oh, whose?’ and they’ll be like ‘oh it’s Josh Black’ that’s the main focus,” Black said.
The Harlem alum is looking to turn his three years as a starter on the Orange defensive line into an NFL career when the NFL Draft rolls around in April. Until then, Black is trying to be more stable in his performance.
“Just be more consistent because there are times when I do exercises and I have a great time once but the second time isn’t as good as I’d like and overall we don’t do than hammering consistency,” Black said. , “Obviously I’m more than capable enough to do it at a specific time that I want, but we just have to be consistent.”
As for his mental preparation ahead of his Pro Day, Black was candid.
“Really excited, really nerve-wracking too, but at the same time it’s going to be the most important job interview of my life, so I have to enjoy it.”
He knows how he wants to approach this opportunity.
“Handle everything like a pro, obviously there will be all the scouts out there and your nerves are going to be on edge but you are beautiful you’re also going to have that adrenaline too, you’re going to be surrounded by your teammates and your coaches too and you’ll have that support there too in your back pocket.
Physically, the former Huskey feels ready.
“I just feel like a better athlete, I’m bigger, faster, stronger, I’m leaner than I’ve ever been, but I also weigh as much as ever, so it’s great to see my transformation not only from a physical point of view but also from a technical point of view as well.
